3D Printing

Need a custom part for your experiment? Our team offers a 3D printing service for researchers from the Faculty of Social and Behavioral Sciences. We can print items such as holders and mounts for lab equipment, enclosures for sensors or response devices, stimulus objects, and prototypes for new research setups.

The service is available to researchers, PhD candidates and staff working on research at our faculty. Students can use it through their supervisor. All prints must be for research or educational purposes.
  • Prepare your design: Send us a 3D file (.STL or .STEP). No design yet? Describe what you need, and we will look at whether we can help you create one.
  • Submit a request: Use our contact form and include your file, the number of copies, your preferred material or colour, and your deadline.
  • We check and plan: We review your design for printability and let you know the expected print time and any costs.
  • Pick up your print: We will email you when it’s ready to collect at the Tech Support Desk.
  • We do our best to help with every print, but we can’t accept every request. We may decline or postpone a request when:

  • It isn’t research-related. The service is for research and education at our faculty. We can’t print personal items, gifts, or projects unrelated to your work.
  • The deadline is too tight. Printing, checking and finishing take time. If there isn’t enough time before your deadline, we may not be able to fit your request in.
  • The queue is full. During busy periods we may have more requests than we can handle. Research needs and requests submitted earlier come first, so we may ask you to wait or reduce the number of copies.
  • The design isn’t suitable. Some designs are too large, too fragile, or too complex for our printers. We may suggest changes or an alternative solution.
  • There are safety concerns. We won’t print items that could be unsafe for participants, staff or equipment.
  • If we can’t take on your request, we’ll let you know as soon as possible and, where we can, suggest an alternative, such as adjusting your design, choosing a later date, or pointing you to another printing service within the university.

  • Printing takes time. Please submit your request in time before you need the item, and allow extra time for larger or more complex prints. The maximum print size is [30 × 30 × 30 cm].
  • Will your print be used with participants or connected to lab equipment? Let us know so we can advise on safety and durability.
  • 3D Printing is offered by our colleagues at Lili’s Proto Lab. If you are interested in 3D printing yourself, visit their page!
