Financial Compensation for Participants

When participating in scientific studies participants can receive financial compensation (or course credits) in proportion to their efforts. Staff and students of the Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences can apply for funds from the financial department to cover these costs.

Fees paid to participants must be registered and provided to the financial department. Below are several methods of compensation. Follow the provided links for more information about the proper procedures.

Financial compensation

Financial compensation can be given in the form of:

  • Cash payments: let participants earn cash money.
  • Digital vouchers: When compensating via digital vouchers additional data must be collected and stored independently of the data collected for your research. Collecting these data also requires additional consent from the participants. To facilitate this process, we have created a Qualtrics package which demonstrates how to ask additional consent, demonstrates how the data can be stored independently, and explains how to safely share this data with the financial department.
  • Prolific: compensation by third party recruitment platforms such as Prolific. You can visit this link for more information about the recruitment and payment via Prolific.
